Hypnobirthing with The Positive Birth Project
(By Katie James)
I run a no nonsense, no fluff, full antenatal Hypnobirthing course.
The Positive Birth Project will be able to support you and ensure that when the day comes you feel calm, relaxed and in control whatever turn your birth takes. I focus on the right birth for you and baby on the day with as many of your preferences being met as possible. We all know that sometimes nature needs a helping hand but it is also easy to feel like you have no choices when you dont know what they are.
You will finish the course with knowledge, understanding and confidence in your pregnant body. You can do this; you were made for it!
I know from personal experience that this is a simple and effective programme. Whether you want to give birth at home, in a labour ward or midwife-led unit, in the water or after an epidural, we can work together to ensure that you have the skills you need for the best experience – you deserve a positive birth where you come away feeling empowered and ready to start your journey into motherhood.
This is much more than your standard antenatal class! Over the four sessions you will learn the physiology of birth, become an expert in relaxation, consider your options and feel like you and your birth partner are a team.
Get rid of any negative beliefs you have surrounding birth. Get comfortable with natural states of hypnosis and with what your body will go through during labour. Understand how the mind interprets pain and how taking charge of your thoughts can make you feel more comfortable.
Become an expert in relaxation. This takes practice, so clear some time around classes to develop your skills. Discover how to use your breath during labour and how to ensure the right hormones are there so that your body responds purposefully. Learn how to distract your mind away from your body and how to create anchors for relaxation.
Visualise your birth and get your birth preferences written (Where do you want to be? Who will be there? What is in your control to enable you to create the right environment for you?) We discuss natural ways you can try and get labour started. Plan a fear release session with your partner so that you can look forward to your baby’s birth.
Bring everything together so that you and your birth partner feel ready for the big day. Your partner can learn soothing strokes and how this helps during labour. Have a structured way to ask the birth professionals questions. Explore birthing positions and learn methods to avoid unnecessary forced pushing. Learn about the first hour with your baby and how you can make the most of this precious time.
